images - video Installation at Chearagi Lane

Cheragi Lane is a busy area in Chittagong which is almost popular for press, newly established Bank, Garments factory and this is a center of newspapers’ offices. Alongside, this part is surrounded by residential area. This place is also popular as a conversational spot of the city where people of different ages and profession gather.

The newspaper hawkers who distribute newspapers throughout Chittagong city collect those papers from Cheragi Lane, they come first at Cheragi in every morning. This remains very busy for three to four hours in the early morning. They come quickly and go for two or three times in Cheragi Lane for collecting different newspapers to serve their clients. Most of them use the bicycle for distributing papers.  I was there with my camera to record the video of those busy moments and connect myself to the part of their job.

It was a significant morning of everyday life in Cheragi Lane which remains unseen from regular busy time. I uncovered these busy moments which happen in every morning at Cheragi.  I asked some of them (who looked interested in speaking in their busy moments) their name, serving area and their mobile number.

Then I presented the two-channel videos in the same place during the show. One of the videos presented the documentation using a projector with a screen, and the other one showed texts on a monitor where I mentioned their names, areas of service, and mobile numbers to provide newspaper service for the public. In an unusual way, I serve their contacts for newspaper service. The audience who watched the video could keep their contact number to contact them.

Twist

Performance
16th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2014
National Art Gallery, Shilpakala Academy,
Dhaka, Bangladesh
December 1, 2014.

It is one of my sound oriented performances where I used sound and microphone.  At first, I broke some bricks using hammer and made the noise hear to the audiences using microphone. Then I sprinkled some talcum powder on the dust of bricks. At the same time, I was coughing.  After sprinkling powder, I blew the dust using electric blowers with sound and noise. This performance is a reaction to the power of political upheaval.
